Scouting - Your future workforce

In a modern business climate you will be wanting to recruit staff who can help you maintain and improve your efficiency.  You will be looking for people who can: plan, communicate, take responsibility, make decisions, organise,  manage a small team, show self reliance and initiative.

In Bedfordshire today, over 7,000 young people are presently acquiring these life skills - through Scouting - by taking part in a wide range of challenging and stimulating activities. So, next time you interview a potential recruit - why not ask if they have ever been a Scout and organised a camp, or planned an expedition, or chaired a meeting, or managed a budget, or led a small team?

Give them an opportunity to exceed your expectations

Your next employees ... Scouts

Not only young people, but adults too...

Adults who volunteer to help Scouting are expected to have, or to attain, similar skills through practical experience and through training provided by The Scout Association. Its leaders also have to be able to work effectively in teams with other adults and their training takes this into account.

The Scout Association has received from the Department of Education three national training awards for its training excellence. This shows the quality of training in Scouting. As an employer you can benefit from the skills that members of your workforce are gaining, or have already gained, though Scouting simply by recognising and using their skills.

Adults in Scouting have various roles to perform. These can range from managing teams of adults through to administrative jobs such as keeping records and looking after funds. Some of the skills that Scouters and administrators have will be relevant to your workplace.

When applying for a job, members of the Scout Movement are encouraged to mention in their job application those skills they use in Scouting which are transferable to your workplace. They will, of course, be prepared to discuss these skills at interview.

When you are looking for new staff please look to see if they mention their Scouting experience on their CVs and question them on what benefit it could be to the position and to your company.

You will probably be able to employ people already trained to a higher standard than you would imagine.
