Icknield District
Location
Icknield District covers the northern sector of Luton between the A6 New Bedford Road and Marsh
Road.
History
The District was formed on 24th May 1967 at that time containing eight Groups. With the
re-organisation of Districts in the town in 1986, the District expanded to the current
nine
Scout Groups and now also has a Scout Fellowship.
There are active Explorer Scout Units and a Young Leaders Unit.
The District Badge
Our badge shows
the Biscot Mill (a former Luton landmark), the ancient British trekway - The Icknield Way
(the way of the Iceni), the River Lea (which has its source in the District at Leagrave
Marsh), Warden Hills (part of the Chilterns) and a representation of Waulud's
Bank (a Saxon settlement) which is at Marsh Farm
in the northern part of Icknield District.
News and Events
The District has launched a new newsletter
to celebrate the centenary of Scouting called Polly's
Express. You can read it online here.
In October we
will once again take part in the Jamboree on the Air event. This
event allows Scouts from around the world that are unable to get to the
World Jamboree to greet each other using amateur radio.
GB2IDS will be active
on the HF amateur bands and open for visits from all groups in the district.
Over a number of years the
District has raised money for Children-in-Need and to date has
raised £14,000.
