‘5 a side’

Our stay here has now been just over 12 months, I am so glad that my husband and I have had this chance to live in another country. Even though England is like home in some aspects, many it is not. Scouting is no different; one of these experiences has been the ‘5 a side – cub/scout competition’ a couple of weeks ago. Now as most of you who know me realise I am not one for Soccer (Football as you English call it), but I must admit, I really had a good time watching this game in action. Could it have been the fast pace, the many goals scored or not, the closeness of the final teams competing, or just watching cubs and scouts alike having so much fun at a game that they obviously enjoy, especially the smaller ones of the groups. Congratulations to the winning teams, and to the ones who didn’t, and I can safely say, first hand experience that they all had fun as I did. Thanks to Dave and Alan, for umpiring and Dave for keeping score. Arlene White (Polly) ADC General Duties

From the Dave

Next to the District competition, the Beaver/Cub board games competition is my favourite.

On Saturday the 10th of February cubs and beavers met at William Austin School to take part in an afternoon of enjoyment, some with apprehension, to battle it out to find champions in draughts and scrabble, so it was with great pleasure I went to Blenheim beavers and to Manor beavers to present the winners' shields.

The winners were:
From Blenheim - Qasim for the Draughts
and from Manor -Chloe for Scrabble

One of the things they both had in common when they were presented with their shields was a big wide grin and the pride they had in their Beaver Colony. For me this is what makes scouting worthwhile, to see the young beavers enjoying themselves and growing in confidence.
