FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Cub Scouts support BBC Children in NeedIcknield District hold a camp fire in the Luton Arndale Centre21st November 1999 -- The Cub Scouts and their leaders from the Icknield District of Luton today held a sponsored camp fire to raise money for this year's BBC Children in Need appeal. They occupied the Central Square for the afternoon and even had a real wood fire - although it was not lit! Shoppers were entertained by renditions of traditional camp fire songs such as Camp Fire's Burning, Alice the Camel, Old McDonald's Farm and of course Ging Gang Goolie. The event was led by Lesley Roberts a former commissioner for the district and now County Commissioner for Oxfordshire. Hilary Cupit, the Assistant District Commissioner responsible for organising the event, said, "This was a first-off for the Cub Scouts and nobody really knew what results to expect. Everyone put their heart and soul into the event and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As a result, it is expected that more than £1000 will be raised from sponsorship money and a collection on the day." For More Information Contact: |
