FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Millenium CelebrationsLuton Scouts take over St Georges Square to show 21st Century Scouting
Among the activities in the Square was a camp site and another highlight was an abseiling tower. Inside the Arndale centre were static displays which showed much of Scouting's history since it started near the beginning of the last century. The event was covered live on a dedicated web site at www.scoutsnet.co.uk with photographs, webcams and video footage being beamed live onto web from the town centre. 15th April 2000 -- Today Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts,
Venture Scouts and their Leaders took over St George's Square and part of the Luton
Arndale Centre to demonstrate Scouting to the public. They were joined by the Bill
Cockcroft, the Chief Commissioner who commented after the day that "despite the foul
weather, the day showed that Scouting was alive and well in Luton and had impressed the
many visitors".
