FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Maypole Dance Celebration For New Explorer ScoutsExplorer Scouts Invested at Town Centre Event
Before performing their dance the Scouts had a short training session from the head of the Harpenden dance school. She was much more used to training the light footed girls at her school but the mainly male dominated Scout Unit performed a passable dance with just the occasional stumble. Hundreds of good natured visitors who watched the event applauded the Scouts' effort even though many had little idea of the importance of the investiture for the new members who are now initiated into the world wide Scout movement. The Icknield District Explorer Scouts, a new section in today's modern Scouts, are going from strength to strength. In May 2003 they held their first investiture on Warden Hills for 15 newcomers. Now, just 11 months later the Unit has almost doubled in size.
