Luton Scouts welcome Jamboree contingent from Chile

Chile Scouts21st October 2007 --

On Monday 23rd July whichever way you looked there were thousands of Scouts arriving from around the world at Heathrow airport.  Amongst the contingent from Chile were a group of twenty girls and their leaders from St John's Villa Academy - a school in La Reina.  La Reina is a town near the mountains in Santiago.  This group were then escorted back to the Woodcroft Guide camp site in Luton which was to be their home for the rest of the week.

During the week they fitted in two sight seeing tours to London visiting St Paul's Cathederal, the London Dungeon, Madame Tusauds, and the British Museum.  They also visited Greenwich and took a flight on the London Eye.  In Luton, they were welcomed to the Town Hall by the Mayor, Counciller Norris Buller who gave them a tour of the council chambers and the Mayor's Parlour.  This was followed by a shopping trip into the Luton Mall.

A camp fire was held on Wednesday evening and Scouts and Guides from north Luton were invited.  It was a very enjoyable evening for everyone with a mixture of songs in English and Spanish.  After the camp fire many of the Scouts and Guides were busy swapping badges and forming new friendships with many email addresses being exchanged so that the youngsters could keep in touch after the Jamboree.

The girls from St John's left Luton on Friday 27th July to rejoin the rest of their contingent and the other 40,000 participants at Hylands Park - the site of the 21st World Scout Jamboree.  They will form two patrols within a troop in the Dune sub camp.

Once the Jamboree is over the group will return to Luton before flying back to Chile at the weekend.
